CAMBRIDGESHIRE WILDLIFE GARDEN

“We want a gravel garden, we want it to be sustainable, and we want to attract wildlife.”

The brief for this garden was beautifully simple, and one that we relished. The first dramatic improvement we made was to do away with the traditional lawn near the house and create an extensive gravel garden filled with climate-resilient plants, whilst creating a place for the clients to sit and drink tea, listening to the birds. To make this project as sustainable as possible it was constructed with minimal hard landscape, re-using everything we found on site. We couldn’t make a wildlife garden without a pond, and this was linked to the rainwater swale we constructed to manage flooding during heavy rainfall. The rest of the garden is grass, wildflowers and trees - perfect for a wide range of species.
